Essays of a Revolutionary MC

Happy New Year !

This is Bana Mutibwa - The Lugaflow Revolutionary Human Rights Activist.

My musical journey has been a tapestry of cultural experiences, activism, and a relentless pursuit of artistic expression. 2024 marks a decade since I moved to the country I now call home, Denmark. I am from Uganda. Today, I stand at the cusp of a new chapter in my life following a long musical break. As I embark on this musical comeback, I would like to bring you along. To bring you to speed, I recommend the article below that appeared in the Copenhagen Post last month.

In 2013, I was at the peak of my musical career in Uganda, known for my cutting-edge rhymes against the dictatorship. My debut CD, "Uganda Passport: the Mixtape," resonated globally, allowing me to travel the world as a political rapper. In Denmark I introduced a UNESCO collection focusing on youth and hip hop in Uganda, In France I played at venues in Paris and Marseille together with the East Africa Rise Up, and in Czech Republic I played at Hip Hop Kemp which was headlined by Kendrick Lamar that year. Then life happened.

Fast forward to 2024, and I find myself in Denmark, a country I've called home since 2014. The decision to move marked a pivotal moment in my life, shifting my focus from a thriving musical journey to new endeavors. Last year, I was selected as Obama Leader Europe for my professional work and music activism. Following this, I made a decisive decision to return to doing music.

Below is my latest single, Power to the People II, off my upcoming debut album, Essays of a Revolutionary MC.

Power to the People II is a compelling anthem that captures the spirit of a nation yearning for change. With a resonant chorus sang by Enie, the song emphasizes giving power back to the people, while addressing pressing social and political issues in Uganda. The lyrics call out to Museveni, urging him to listen to the collective voice of the masses and consider a peaceful transition of power.
