Essays of a Revolutionary MC: Amalienborg Slotsfestival
Last month, I graced the stage at Ungdomshuset in Copenhagen for Hip-Hop i Ungeren: Amalienborg Slotsfestival. The venue's rich history set the stage for a gathering of socially conscious and political rap talents, including Tarrak, Grænseløs, Naduk, and Sanganee. Each artist, armed with a mic and hip-hop beats, championed their causes. I proudly raised the Ugandan flag through my Lugaflow Revolutionary Rhymes, Fashion, and Statements.
At Amalienborg Slotsfestival, a standout moment for me was collaborating with the incredible 13-year-old beatboxer, Louie (Onz_bbx on Instagram). Meeting him at Rapolitics' Re:Claim Festival last September, I was thrilled to share the stage with this true champion of his art. Louie's dedication, reminiscent of my early days, echoed the raw passion of my rap beginnings in a community house at the Bavubuka Foundation. Inspired to push that legacy forward, I started my own Eodub Camp in 2011, a hub for young rappers and artists to hone their talents. I was awarded Uganda’s Young Achievers Award for that work.
Louie's commitment to our collaboration, arranging rehearsals and even organizing a professional studio, evoked memories of the vibrant Eodub Camp days. His passion took me back to the essence of why I fell in love with Hip Hop. You can witness our soundcheck here.
At Amalienborg Slotsfestival, I also shared the stage with Sanganee, a pivotal figure in my return to the scene. Together with Bint Quds, we wrote "Love for the People." Sanganee's advocacy for class consciousness, global injustices, and rethinking capitalism is commendable. We're back in the studio, gearing up for another release soon.
As a small token of appreciation to you , I am offering exclusive access to footage from the concert here, before its gradual release on my socials in the coming weeks. You can also stream and download my latest single, Power to the People II feat Énie here.
